Welcome to Backcountry Bibles, my blog dedicated to tramping, backcountry huts, and photography in magnificent New Zealand.
This blog is borne out of the dream of seeing a Bible in every backcountry hut in New Zealand. Just as a hut can be a place of comfort and refuge, so too can the word of God, so the goal is for His word to reach those remote places in New Zealand, to welcome the weary traveler seeking shelter or just hut-bagging.
The intention here is to generate some interest in the pursuit of this dream, to provide inspiration to others to get out there and visit some of these remote places and huts, and to provide information on the trips undertaken.
I intend to document the trips involved, and where possible provide some history to the places and huts visited. Trip times, access routes, and map references will also be given, so as to enable anyone who may be interested in following in my footsteps can do so.
Please feel free to comment, I will endeavour to answer as quickly as possible. Any support would be welcomed - obviously there will the ongoing need for resources, namely any unused or surplus Bibles would be of benefit.
I look forward to perhaps seeing some of you in the backcountry sometime.
